Kids spend a lot of energy at play. Help them re-energize for their after school activities, homework, or play time by substituting their favorites with something with more nutritional value.

These delicious (and did we say nutritious?!) snacks are sure to be mom-approved!

Substitute the favorite bread battered chicken tenders and jo-jos with chicken skewers and sweet potato fries. For perfect sweet potato fries every time, just cut, sprinkle with olive oil and sea salt, and bake at 425 degrees for about 20 minutes. Kids love to dip their food, so serve with ketchup, ranch, peanut sauce, and any other sauces that the kids enjoy!

Instead of pizza, opt for easy pizza inspired pita pockets. Let the kids choose their stuffing – veggies, cheese, meats, marinara then pop them in the oven or microwave until the cheese is melted. This is such a fun idea, that the kids wouldn’t even notice if you slipped in a few extra veggies or a whole wheat pita pocket!

For a lighter snacks that still pack a punch with servings of protein and fruits/vegetables make deli meat rollers or greek yogurt with toppings. Both of these are very easy and you can get creative. Roll the kids favorite deli meats and cheeses around apple slices for a delicious alternative to sandwiches or top greek yogurt with any array of fruit, nuts or honey instead of serving ice cream.

If the kids have a sweet tooth, don’t let them reach for cake, cookies, or sugar drinks. Instead, for the kids who like sweet and salty combinations (like PB&J) make them a fun combination of nuts, dried fruit, and a small amount of chocolate. For kids who love cookies or cake, make faux-cheesecake bars by spreading cream cheese and jam on graham crackers. For the ones that like a cold treat (ice cream or popsicles), make homemade frozen pops by blending any combination of ice, juice, fruit, and greek yogurt (for that added protein boost!) and freeze in a cube tray.

Stay creative and feel free to change it up – the great thing about these ideas is that they are flexible and most homes will have all of the ingredients in the pantry! Make sure you check with the parents concerning food allergies before fixing and serving these yummy snacks.
